De-Centering the West: The Eastern Frontier and the Emergent South

The US treasury secretary visited China for the second year in a row, CGTN reported. She is the dirst senior US official to visit Beijing this year. She is one of many high profile visits Beijing has hosted in the first quarter of 2024.
The Sino-nationhas hosted a number of senior executives from a host of Western countries plus presidents and dignitaries from Africa, Southeast Asia and more. It has been noted by the South China Morning Post that even a high profiled Dubai Prince visited Hong Kong recently with plans to open an office.
The focus on Beijing is good. It is a pro-trade nation that has helped a lot of global south and developed nations grow. In fact, the nation managed to produce a 5.2 growth rate in 2023 Bloomberg reports and it saw incredible figures in a number of industries with EVs, solar and even semiconductors. The popular Xiomei brand just recently launched its own EV making electric vehicles even more accessible to the Public.
And while we are all happy to see China standing up to US attempts to bully it on trade, production and tech, other aligned states are doing well too. These countries are adjusting their sails to a post Western World. And if the world may be realistic, everyone will eventually have to face a world, where the West has not won.
While it may be a bit premature to pronounce that we have already moved into a multi-polar world, it is clear that the new order is quickly taking shape. It is a world that must de-center itself from the West. While the West may be decoupling, derisking or whatever they are calling their trade war with China these days, the world will need to rapidly de-center the West to survive.
The truth is that the West has lost a lot of ground since its early Post World War II days. So much has been lost that the West has been deeply plunged into covert and overt military operations just to keep a fragile hegemony. But changes in currency, production, consumption and even technology has shifted the balance of power enormously. The West is clearly on the back foot trying to maintain a symblance of power.
And while that is understandable for the West. It is quickly becoming a disaster for its staunchest allies. The overt hypocrisy of the West in diplomatic affairs and its human rights record, make seeing through the hubris easy. Just recently the former Israeli prime minister awarded an African president a genocide necklace, as his own nation continues to vote and arm an unfolding genocide in Gaza. The move was ironic, a surreal moment. Not even 6 months ago, Germany was censured by Namibia for supporting Tel Aviv considering its past genocide against the African Nama and Herrero people, not to mention its genocide against Tanzania in the Mai Mai Rebellion, making the very act of honoring any African leader or nation for genocide absolutely unfathomable. Underscored today as, Nicuaragua has sued Germany at the ICJ for "facilitating genocide" against Palestine, FirstPost reports.
The West continues to search for partners and accomplices in Sub-saharan Africa and the MENA region to offload its African and West Asian refugees who are seeking assylum from covert and overt Western-led and financed military operations helmed by genocidal strongmen. It is a quest that has seen sweeping reforms and thousands of vulnerabke populations shipped to odd or dangerous second locations where they can be hurt, trafficked or enlisted in rebel groups.
Recently, Western media has been on a publicity blitz for its Central African ally, Rwanda. While the nation recieves the bulk of its funding and military aid from the West, such a media blitz is unusual. Consumers of Western media should take pause, as often such coverage amounts to strategically positioned PR campaigns. Is it a wonder that the BBC, France24, Deutchwelle [DW (German)], Reuters, Associated Press among others covered Rwanda's 90-day genocide, but conveniently overlooked the nearly 30-year, on-going, Congo genocide taking place only a few hundred miles away? Or the current genocide in Gaza spanning twice as much time? The disconnect is so palpable in the West, that the world is left to wonder how out of touch must it be? It continues to drag its helpless allies into cringe-worthy contingencies that leave them exposed for all of the world to see.
It is time to De-center the West. Its values, systems and alliances are nothing of which to be proud . . . Beyond trade and finance, there is nothing of value to be gained from the Western Rules Based order for most of humanity. There is only genocide, military conflicts, sanctions, containment and staggering poverty. The people of Peru, Panama, Haiti, Afganistan, Cameroon, and a number of other states could detail the barbarity they have faced under Western strongmen and CIA operatives.
And this is not to say that there is no value in the West. All states offer some level of benefit, if leveraged correctly. However, decentering the West goes beyond de-dollarization or sanctions. It goes toward a psychic shift that must deliberately refocus social, financial and scientific value to other markets, societies and political systems. It is how the world will continue to grow, even without the all-knowing US Federal Reserve.
Just recently Zimbabwe launched its first Gold-backed currency to stave off Western sanctions and financial system inequities. Zimbabwe has shifted because it can no longer afford to center the West. And many nations as well as some old, old allies will find it increasingly difficult to center the West. Because centering the West simply doesn't make sense anymore, not for local populations, prosperity, free markets or trade.
As more states begin to stand up to the West and pivot toward the new world emerging, others will fall into obscurity. These states may find it difficult to deleverage themselves. But without question, the time has come. Get out while you can.
